June 5 – Mitch Gettman Band

Much of the initial focus on MitchGettman has been that he is in high-school and putting out material and doing performances on the level of many established and veteran musicians. As he progresses, Gettman is being seen beyond his age/talent ratio and is being recognized as an up and coming musician in Omaha, Nebraska. Mitch is consistently finding himself being asked to open for national acts and buzz worthy praise is on the rise regarding his performances and songwriting. Gettman finished 2009 with a nomination for Best New Artist at The Omaha Arts & Entertainment Awards. This nomination came in the form of votes from the Omaha music press, radio DJ’s, local music industry professionals and promoters.

Musically the comparisons to Jeff Buckley and Radiohead are obvious choices. A fan himself of these musicians and their knack for well crafted songs, Mitch has embraced these influences by uploading videos of him performing tracks by these artists on his personal YouTube channel. The result is a channel that has over 13,000 views, with upload views reaching over 130,000. In 2009 Gettman enlisted two established and respected Omaha musicians (Adam Gerber on Drums and Andrew Malashock on bass) and the trio wrote and recorded songs for Gettman’s debut EP entitled “Worn” which was released in April 2010 to rave reviews. The songs on this album, and the new songs he has recently added to his catalogue show that Gettman is more than just a stunning vocalist, but also a proficient guitar player, songwriter, and arranger. Mitch also has more than just one trick up his sleeve. Taking up residence on his set list are soaring epic ballads, catchy Smith’s era mope pop, and grunge influenced rock. His original songs show that Gettman is one of the most promising and impassioned musicians to come onto the crowded Omaha music scene in many years.

June 12 – DJ Brent Crampton

A DJ since the turn of the century & co-creator of the monthly dance event titled “loom,” Brent Crampton’s motto has become: Bringing people together—connecting through music—releasing in dance. Based in the middle of America, his innate life gift has been recognized through various awards, such as Best DJ in 2006-2008 for the Omaha Entertainment & Arts Awards, Scion/Imeem Breakthrough Emerging Artist in 2006 and named one of Omaha, Nebraska’s top artists of the year in 2009 by The Reader.

His other mottois mixing life. “I mix music the same way I mix food, friends and experiences,” says Crampton. As such, his sound centers around the deep house and global soul movement, yet defies genres, dropping anything on the right occasion from underground disco, conscious hip hop, party rocking classics, post punk and world flavors such as afrobeat, samba, salsa, dancehall and bhangra.

With this musical tapestry in mind, Crampton founded the dance celebration titled, “loom—Weaving the Social Fabric Through Dance” in 2006. loom has established itself as the longest running dance party in Omaha and has hosted international DJs such as Kevin Yost, jojoflores, Nickodemus, Hallex.M, Jeremy Sole and Julius the Mad Thinker. loom has gone onto become a soulful and multicultural dance party in a middle-tier Midwestern city that previously had none.

From the social binding message of loom, his five-year involvement as Nebraska’s Mr. X for the Red Bull Music Academy and as an official NextAid.org artist & representative, Crampton’s work as a DJ and promoter touches on social progression, education, art, philanthropy and elevating culture.

Music has taken him throughout North America and beyond, having performed in locales such as London, Mexico, NYC, Chicago, Miami, Montreal, Las Vegas, Boston and Hawaii. He’s promoted shows or played alongside talent such as King Britt, The Rapture DJs (The Rapture), Todd Fink & Jacob Thiele (The Faint), Alton Miller, Colette, Sierra Leones Refugee Allstars, Orgone, Woody McBride, Josh One and Tim Sweeney (DFA). In all, his driving ambitions have made him one of the most sought after and active DJs in the area.
